Aluminum checkered sheet is commonly stocked and sold in alloys 5052, 3003, 1060, and 6061. Alloy 5052 has good corrosion resistance and strength and is sometimes referred to as “marine grade aluminum” and is used in the transportation industry among many others. Applications. While alloy 3003 is usually used to make bright coatings with propellers or diamond-shaped tablets.
Aluminum check plate is made by semi-continuous casting, hot rolling and cold rolling of aluminum ingot. During the cold rolling process, a checker or tread pattern is imprinted on one side of the coil during the final rolling process. The rolls used to produce the pattern are expensive and are made in unique sets. The height of the tread or rhombus is determined by the depth of engraving of the pattern in these additional rolls.
Checker plate for many diverse applications including: Transportation industry including rail, marine, trailer, truck, marine tool boxes and tools, kickboards, shop fronts, roofing and architectural decorative applications. While aesthetically pleasing and functional in many applications, care must be taken to ensure that the product meets all design requirements, including; openings, thickness/load limitations, slip ratings and environmental considerations.
