Rebar and its different types

Rebar is a profile with a circular cross-section and solid, which most people know as the ribbed metal type that is used in building construction. Normally, the material of the rebar is steel; But you should know that the variety of production of this product is very large and in the industry, all kinds of rebar are produced and used

Why is rebar used in construction?

The compressive strength of concrete is great and a lot of force is required to crush concrete. Meanwhile, a structure with this level of compressive resistance, tensile and torsional resistance is relatively weak. For this purpose, ribbed rebar is used in concrete structures to increase the tensile and torsional strength of concrete.

Trans rebar is one of the most widely used and widely used steel sections, which is used in industrial and construction projects due to its wide variety of sizes, dimensions and shapes.

Types of rebar in terms of gender

Rebars are generally divided into two categories: simple rebar and ribbed rebar. Among the types of rebar, the following can be mentioned:

European rebar (carbon, manganese, silicon, alloy, etc.)
Carbon steel (“black” base bar)
galvanized
Epoxy coated
Fiberglass polymer and stainless
European rebar

The important feature of European rebar is its material, which is mainly made of manganese. European rebar is the most resistant type of rebar due to its bending characteristics. Another feature of this product is that it is easy to use. In general, this rebar is not recommended for use in earthquake-prone areas or for projects that require an integrated structure.

Rebar with full carbon steel

The most common type of rebar is “black” rebar, which is used in every type and scale of project, except for a few exceptions. The biggest weakness of black rebar is that it wears out quickly. If this erosion is high, it will cause the concrete around it to break. For conditions where the rebar may be exposed to moisture and water saturation, there are more suitable options than black rebar. However, we can conclude that the best type of rebar available in terms of strength and tensile strength is black rebar.

Rebar with epoxy coating

The rebar with epoxy coating is actually the black rebar with epoxy coating. This rebar has similar relative resistance. But it is more resistant to corrosion. However, the epoxy coating is extremely delicate. The greater the damage to the coating, the less resistance it shows to corrosion.

Galvanized rebar

If we want to compare epoxy and galvanized rebar, we must say that galvanized rebar is forty times more resistant to corrosion than black rebar, and maybe that’s why they are more expensive than epoxy rebar. Since these types of rebars are less vulnerable, they are therefore more valuable than epoxy rebars.

Rebar made of fiber reinforced polymer (GFRP)

FRP rebar is a composite product that is used instead of steel rebars and significantly prevents damage caused by rebar corrosion in corrosive and acidic environments. The use of FRP rebar is the best choice for reinforcing concrete in places where there is no problem of proximity to electric and magnetic fields. This product is widely used due to its excellent and suitable resistance to sulfates and chlorides as well as resistance to rust and corrosion.

FRP rebar can be used to design and build new buildings. These materials, with their properties, reduce the diameter and increase the distance between rebars in reinforced concrete structures, including slabs, tunnels, foundations, etc. As a result, they have no resistance against vibrations caused by earthquakes or industrial equipment.

Stainless steel rebar

Stainless steel rebar is the best type of rebar that can be used for most of the existing projects and is the most expensive rebar in the market. This type of rebar is about eight times more expensive than epoxy rebar. However, stainless steel is expensive in all but certain cases.

But for those who have a reason to use it, stainless steel rebar is 1500 times more corrosion resistant than black rebar. Stainless steel rebar is used in grids and reinforcements and holders and even decorative accessories, such as wrought iron works, and its most use is in the road and construction industry to compensate for the tensile strength of concrete.

There are different types of rebars that are used according to their properties and applications, but the most rebars that are used in the concrete and concreting industry are ordinary steel, which are classified, produced and consumed in Iran as follows. Of course, this classification is based on the Russian standard, which is popular in Iran.

Reinforcing bar

Reinforcing bars are the result of hot-rolled steel ingots, which are used to increase resistance against various tensile forces due to their special technical characteristics. The most important feature of these types of rebars is their high tensile strength. The reinforcement bar can be bent up to 180 degrees and will be easily used in different parts of the structures.

Trans rebar

Trans rebar is another type of rebar whose surface is polished during a process. This type of rebar, in addition to construction purposes, is also used for decorative purposes. Trans rebar has different types and each of them is used in different situations according to their application and features. Among the most important types of trans rebar, the following can be mentioned:

Desire

Round bearing trans bearing
Dupolish
wire transformer
Six-point trans bar
Corroded trans bar
Welded wire mesh

Welded Wire Mesh (WWF) is in such a way that the bars are placed on top of each other like a web and at an angle of 90 degrees and are welded together at the intersections by means of spot welding. The rods used in this product are made of high carbon steel and are not flexible. As a result, it is usually used for leveling the foundation concrete of floors, walls, bridges, roads, etc.

Heavier welded mesh can be used in walls, road asphalt, box beds, drainage structures, and small concrete channels.

Metal bars for the production of mesh

Metal reinforcement or reinforced wire mesh is another suitable product for concrete. Meshed metal is made by cutting steel bars in parallel lines. Wire mesh is commonly used in areas where a significant thickness of concrete is required or in the reinforcement of lightweight concrete. Mesh reinforcement can be used in sidewalks and small concrete slabs; Because there is not much pressure on them.
